James J. Szerejko

James Szerejko is a veteran federal court litigator, having actively practiced in the District Court for over twenty-five years.  He has served as lead counsel in numerous jury trials taken to verdict, and has argued cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

His experience in federal, as well as state court litigation has been varied and extensive, including land use, employment, civil rights, statutory and constitutional issues and claims exposing litigants to punitive damages.

James has been a member of the Federal Grievance Committee for the District Court of Connecticut and serves on the District’s Magistrate Judge Merit Review Panel.  He has been active with committees of the Federal Practice Section of the Connecticut Bar Association.

Since 1995 James has been certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (based upon accomplishment and testing).  He is also an Emeritus member of the Oliver Ellsworth Chapter of the American Inns of Court, having served as a Master for five years.

Within the public sector he has served in numerous capacities.  His government experience includes the Legislative Commissioner's Office for the Connecticut General Assembly, as well as Deputy Counsel for the Senate Majority. He has been a member and Vice Chair of the Connecticut State Board of Education, Chairman of the State’s Criminal Justice Commission and James served as a member of the Connecticut Medical Examining Board.  James was an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Hartford.  He also served as counsel to the Hartford Redevelopment Agency, and was a member of the Hartford Charter Revision Commission.

James has been involved in a number of community organizations throughout the years.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Community Renewal Team of Greater Hartford and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Hartford Legal Aid Foundation.  He is presently a member of the Board of directors of the Metro Hartford Chamber of Commerce and The 1892 Club.  James was President of the Hartford County Bar Association.
