Susan M. Kirkeby
Susan M. Kirkeby is an associate in the Firm's Insurance and Litigation Practice Groups where she focuses her practice on insurance coverage and defense litigation. Susan also counsels clients and litigates matters in the areas of divorce, employment, foreclosure and bodily injury law. As a trial attorney, she has experience in selecting juries, conducting witness examinations and post-verdict appellate work. Susan’s exemplary cases include obtaining an appellate court affirmance of a trial court’s decision in a breach of contract action, three defense jury verdicts in a personal injury trial and successfully striking claims of bad faith and violations of the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act/Connecticut Unfair Insurance Practices Act in an action against a large insurance carrier.
Prior to entering law school, Susan served in the United States Army Reserves as a Nuclear Biological Chemical Non-Commissioned Officer. She served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in support of the 3rd Infantry Division and in Operation Agile Response/Silent Guide in support of the United States European Command.
Susan is presently the Associate Chair of the Firm’s pro bono committee. She also handles a number of pro bono matters for the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center and Statewide Legal Services (Connecticut). Susan is involved in a number of civic-oriented activities, including organizing charitable efforts for a local domestic violence shelter and assisting in the coordination of the Connecticut Bar Association Young Lawyers Section’s Making a Difference Soup Kitchen Project. Susan currently serves as the Director of Diversity and the Hartford Local Unit Chair on the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association Young Lawyers Section.
